American Board of Regenerative Medicine (ABRM)

This programme is designed for qualified medical doctors seeking to develop or advance their knowledge and clinical practice in regenerative medicine. It is suitable for General Practitioners (GPs), Consultants, Specialist Consultants and Surgeons who hold current registration with a recognised medical regulatory authority (e.g. GMC or international equivalent).

The programme provides an in-depth understanding of regenerative medicine, covering patient assessment, patient selection, treatment planning, current evidence, safety, governance and best practice to support informed clinical decision-making.

Yes. The programme has been specifically designed for busy healthcare professionals and offers flexible online learning, allowing you to study at your own pace alongside your existing clinical and professional commitments.

Previous experience in regenerative medicine is not essential. However, delegates will ideally have at least one year's clinical experience within their professional scope of practice before undertaking the programme.

As the ABRM Diploma is a knowledge-based qualification and does not provide practical or hands-on clinical training, delegates may begin the programme while developing their clinical experience. Those undertaking the programme in the UK can accumulate cases for their required procedure logbook throughout their studies and submit this following successful completion of the examination.

Yes. The ABRM Diploma can be undertaken alongside the ABLM Programme and is also included as part of the Academy Fellowship pathway. Please refer to the relevant programme pages for further information.

Applying to the programme is straightforward:

• Complete the online registration form and select your preferred payment option.
• The Academy Admissions Team will contact you to request the supporting documentation required for your application.
• Once all documentation has been received, your application will be submitted to the Board for review and approval.
• Following Board approval, the Academy Admissions Team will provide your enrolment confirmation, login details for the ASRM learning portal, access to the online learning modules, mock examination questions and additional learning resources.

• GMC registration certificate or your country's equivalent medical registration certificate.
• Specialist qualification certificate (CCT, GPVTS or CESR), where applicable.
• Primary medical degree certificate (MBBS, MBChB, MD or equivalent).
• Current Curriculum Vitae (CV).
• One recent passport-style colour photograph.
• One recent passport-style black and white photograph.
• Completed Code of Ethics form (no notarisation is required; the Academy will arrange this on your behalf).

Delegates are allocated six months from the date of enrolment to complete the online learning, prepare for and successfully sit the online examination.

We understand that, on occasion, unforeseen personal or professional circumstances may affect your ability to complete the programme within this timeframe. If additional time is required, you may apply for an extension by contacting the Academy and providing a brief explanation of your circumstances.

The Academy will consider extension requests on a case-by-case basis, and where approved, no extension fee will be charged.

The American Board of Regenerative Medicine (ABRM) assessment consists of two parts:

Written Examination

The written assessment comprises 175 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and is completed under invigilation. Delegates may choose to sit the examination in person at the Academy's Head Office in Stafford or remotely via the Academy's secure online invigilation platform, subject to the Academy's examination regulations.

At the scheduled examination time, delegates will access the assessment through their individual ASRM learning portal using their secure login credentials. The examination will be available within the portal for the duration of the scheduled assessment.

Upon submission, the examination is automatically marked, and delegates will receive their provisional examination result immediately. The pass mark is 70%.

Viva Voce Examination

Following successful completion of the written examination, delegates will be invited to attend a viva voce (oral examination) with the Academy Director. The viva provides an opportunity to discuss key principles of regenerative medicine, clinical reasoning and the application of knowledge gained throughout the programme.

To allow sufficient time for examination scheduling and the appointment of invigilators, delegates are required to provide the Academy with a minimum of two months' notice of their preferred examination date. We recommend contacting the Academy as early as possible to ensure your preferred examination date can be accommodated.

Full examination guidance, including technical requirements, examination regulations and booking arrangements, will be provided prior to your scheduled assessment.

Delegates are permitted up to three examination attempts, including the initial sitting, to successfully pass the examination.

If you are unsuccessful on your first or second attempt, you may resit the examination no sooner than one month after your previous examination date, allowing additional time for study and preparation.

If you are unsuccessful after the third attempt, you will be required to submit a new application and complete the admissions process, including payment of the applicable programme fees, before becoming eligible to undertake the examination again.

Once your application has been approved and your enrolment has been confirmed, the programme will generally become non-refundable in accordance with the applicable Programme Terms and Conditions.

The Academy understands that exceptional circumstances may arise and will consider requests on a case-by-case basis.

Yes. ABRM Board Certification is valid for five years from the date of certification.

To maintain an active Board Certification, all ABRM Diplomates are required to complete the ABRM Recertification process. This should be initiated within 90 days of the certification expiry date and requires successful completion of the ABRM written recertification examination.

ABRM Diplomates are responsible for monitoring the expiry date shown on their Board Certification certificate and ensuring they contact the Academy within the required timeframe to remain eligible for recertification.

Further guidance on the recertification process will be provided by the Academy upon request.
